Germany’s Juliane Schenk took off in perfect manner in badminton event of the London Olympics as she intercepted Kristina Gavnholt in her opening match on Saturday, July 28, 2012.
This Women’s Singles encounter was a Group N match which was played at Court Number 2 of Wembley Arena.
The victorious shuttler played with great precision and registered a straight-set win with an overwhelming margin of 21-18 and 21-14.
On the other hand, the inexperienced female campaigner of Czech Republic was no match to the higher ranked opponent.
World Number six Juliane laid foundation of her supremacy in very first set and clinched a vital match point.
Though, she took some time to read her rival’s game but she never looked back after getting the desired momentum.
In the first half of the set, Kristina challenged her opponent’s authority and showed some spark in the opening rallies.
Both shuttlers snapped each other’s heels and remained close on points table until 7-6 but then Juliane utilised all her experience and brilliance in the game to surpass her competitor.
The German campaigner dominated in three uninterrupted rallies and placed a respectable figure of 11-8 before the interval.
After one-minute break, she pushed the opposing shuttler in all areas of the court and raised her total to a commanding position of 15-11.
Though, Juliane lost focus in final stage of first set which resulted in a tight margin of 18-17 but she wrapped this segment with a favourable result of 21-18.
The Czech player could not lift the burden of this immediate loss and knelt down in even disgraceful manner in following game.
She started second set by losing three vital points after 2-3 and then planted troubles for herself by going down in three consecutive rallies just before the mid-game break.
Meanwhile, the opposing shuttler capitalised this initial advantage and transformed it into a mountainous total of 11-6.
The sixth seeded Juliane proved her class also in the second half and completely dazzled her challenger with a lustrous performance.
She mounted pressure by registering 16-10 margin and then maintained this significant lead to lock the honour with 21-14 score on the board.
