Julie Roddin pockets Women’s 1500m freestyle crown – 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals
Julie Roddin of ANCM pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle in the age class of 35-39 year old on first day of the 2012 Marriott USMS Summer Nationals at the CenturyLink Center Omaha on Thursday, July 5.
Roddin, who was the strongest contender for gold medal of the event, met expectations of her supporters by capturing the crown of the event. She remained dominant over her competitors from the start and paved her way to the finishing blockade for the title
of the event.
With her epic speed and strong determination, Roddin faced no trouble in snaring gold medal of the discipline. She enjoyed an advantage of more than half a minute over her strongest challenger and hit the wall with a wonderful timing of 19 minutes and 44.04
seconds for gold medal.
The champion remained nearly two minutes faster from USMS mark of 17 minutes and 46.58 seconds, set by K Pipes-Neilsen during 2000.
Her effort was almost two minutes and 11 seconds away from the world record of 17 minutes and 33.46 seconds, made by Kirsten Cameron of New Zealand in 2009.
The gold medallist was followed by Malena Hankins of GAJA, who stayed nearly forty-four seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with a nice timing of 20 minutes and 28.64 seconds for silver medal.
The 39-year-old Hankins was trailed by Sabine Weiser of WMST, who was more than a minute apart and sprinted her way towards the finishing blockade with the timing of 21 minutes and 44.63 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Kristin R Volz of SFTL, who stayed substantially slower from her foregoing swimmer and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 25 minutes and 38.06 seconds.
Subsequently, Volz was chased by Yaritza Gomez of MWA, who stayed nearly two minutes apart and completed her swim in a time of 27 minutes and 39.79 seconds for fifth position.
In addition, Roddin was satisfied with her title-claiming effort in the 1500m discipline and articulated her plans of accomplishing the same in forthcoming swimming events.
