Julien Benneteau hopes to recover from injury before the start of the French Open – Tennis News
World number 31, Julien Benneteau, incurred an injury in the third round clash of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters on Thursday. He was up against the number one Briton, Andy Murray and fractured his elbow while striking a difficult
return. He twisted his ankle and fell down miserably on his arm and elbow forcing him to retire from the event.
However, the injury is not short lived according to the medics and the French tennis icon will have to miss out the rest of the clay season to recover permanently. It means that he will not feature in the year’s second Grand Slam
tournament, the Roland Garros French Open, which is a major blow because it’s the only major tournament played at his home soil.
The final decision is still pending but the chances are that he will miss out the French Open. In an interview, he stated, “"I have fractured my right elbow and sprained my ankle. The worst thing is the fracture, which means at
least three weeks of immobility. I will then have to get the feeling back in my elbow. A lot of things crashed with me when I fell. I think it's finished for Roland Garros. The first thing I thought about when I fell down was the Games. But I will start working
on my ankle on Monday. I'll do all I can [to be ready]."
It is very cruel on him but he is a strong man and considers it to be a blessing in disguise. He will receive extra time to prepare for the London Olympics that will take place in Wimbledon, later this year. It might be something
to console him from missing the Grand Slam at his home but not a replacement for sure. France will have to search for his replacement in the Davis Cup squad as well because the 30-year-old Benneteau was the regular member of the squad.
There are almost five weeks left in the start of the French Open. The Frenchman is having a race with time to recover from the niggling injury. Maybe his willpower has a better of the injury and he gets fit to contest in the French
Open.
