Julien Brun uses his experience to remain in contention at the Golf de Toulouse-Seilh
Amateur Julien Brun recorded another 67 in a row on Friday, to enter into contention for the top spot on the leaderboard, at the ALLIANZ Golf Open Toulouse Metropole.
Brun, who is playing his first tournament on the European Challenge Tour, used his course experience and stunned his opponents in the field with a great display of the game.
He has played French Boys Championship in Toulouse a number of times, which gave him an advantage over his competitors in France.
“I’ve played the course many times during the French Boys Championship and other amateur events, and it can get pretty windy here so I was ready for it,” he said.
The 20-year-old, who is currently pursuing his second year at the Texas Christian University, in America, has already won three events in his collegiate career.
This week, he is using all of his experience to maintain a good position on the leaderboard. He got off to a perfect start on the back nine of the course, as he birdied the opening hole of his round.
He then earned another two shots on the 14th and the 15th hole for a three-under par score. His tee shot on the 16th hole went out of the bounds and he had to concede a triple bogey seven.
However, the hiccup on the 16th hole did not shatter his confidence and he kept on playing some good shots on the course. A birdie on the 17th hole allowed him to finish the back nine with an under-par score.
The front nine witnessed him remain flawless, as he recorded three birdies without conceding a single bogey and settled just two strokes behind the leader Matteo Delpodio.
“I got off to a great start with a birdie on the tenth,” he said. “So that really got my round going, until I hit my drive way right on the 16th, and ended up making a triple bogey”.
“But I was pleased with the way I bounced back with a birdie on the next, and three more after the turn was a good way to finish,” he added.
