Julien Maio shows exit to Maciej Poulakowski in Men’s Singles qualifying round at Polish Open
Julien Maio, a spirited shuttler from France, continued his winning run and reached into Men’s Singles main round after beating Poland’s Maciej Poulakowski in qualifying round clash at the Polish Open 2012 on Thursday, August 30, in Poland.
The spirited Julien, who was un-seeded in Men’s Singles draw of the event, played tremendous badminton and created an upset by beating the top seeded Maciej who failed to cheer his home fans.
The lower ranked Julien was impressive in his game plan and its implementation as he played with precision and easily thrashed his higher ranked local opponent in straight sets with a convincing difference on the board.
The top seeded local shuttler, on the contrary, failed to play his normal game as he could not get rid of the mounting pressure and also remained unable to cope up with the power play of his opponent.
The confused Maciej failed to put up strong show and crashed out in the qualifying round without creating a strong impact.
The opening set of this competition proved to be a nightmare for the local player as Julien put up staggering show of aggressive and positive badminton which helped him to take a huge lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, the in-form Julien continued punishing his higher ranked local challenger and managed to stretch his lead without facing any resistance.
The French shuttler remained on track all the way in concluding phase and finished off the set with a striking 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, Maciej responded to the support of his home crowd as he played aggressive badminton from opening points and did not let his rival to build a comfortable lead at the initial stage.
However, Julien managed to set up an 11-8 lead until the break.
After the interval, the Polish player managed to level the score by playing attacking badminton but he failed to dominate the pace in the ending points when Julien increased his speed and took the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
The passionate Julien won this qualifying round battle in straight sets with a decent margin of 21-12 and 21-19.
