Julien Sebastien wins the seventh stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012
Julien Sebastien of Team China Jilun Cycling wins the seventh stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012 after his tremendous performance during the race.
He completed the 114.1 kilometre chase to Shengze in an impressive time of 2 hours, 27 minutes and 8 seconds and restricted his major opponents.
The cyclist was comfortably leading the peloton after a lightning start but had to face the disappointment, in form of a flat tyre in the final 25 kilometres.
The French was delighted after claiming his first ever victory at a UCI 2.1 event and thanked his teammates for their continuous support throughout the race.
"This is not my first win in an international race as I got two at the Tour of Serbia last year but it's my first win in a UCI 2.1 race,” he explained after crossing the finish-line.
“I was really disappointed to not do better than 12th or 18th up to now in the Tour of Taihu”.
"I wish I could join a professional team but I'm 25 and team managers usually look for younger riders”.
“I was hoping to sign for the new British continental CMI but the sponsor pulled out one month ago".
Benjamin Giraud of Team La Pomme Marseille achieved the second spot with Ahmet Orken of Team Konya Torku Seker Spor, Leonid Krasnov and Roman Maykin of Team RusVelo finishing at the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Benjamin Giraud, Sebastian Korber and Milan Kadlec claimed the first Sprint of the race while Yilin Liu, Vadim Shaekhov and Mohd Shahrul Mat Amin winning the second event of the contest.
Jullien Sebastien bagged the maximum number of 14 UCI points and achieved the top spot at the points event of the race, while Benjamin Giraud (12 points) and Ahmet Orken (10 points) securing the second and the third positions.
Benjamin Giraud is now leading the stage 7 points classifications with a maximum number of 56 UCI points in his back pocket.
Alois Kankovsky is 4 points behind at the second position with Sebastian Korber (46 points), Alexander Serebryakov (45 points) and Leonid Krasnov (44 points) occupying the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
