Julio Borbon helps Texas Rangers defeat New York Yankees 7-5 – MLB Update
Julio Borbon put in a good performance to guide the Texas Rangers to a 7-5 victory over the New York Yankees at Rangers Ballpark, Arlington on Saturday, May 7.
Texas broke the winning streak of the Yankees on Saturday, as the game was filled with excitement and brought good news for the Rangers after a considerably long period of time. New York had dominated the series with three consecutive victories after losing
in the first game.
Despite the caution that Joe Girardi, the Yankees’ manager exercised, Borbon had a greater surprise for Girardi and his team. "Absolutely. That's why I went to the mound, to try to prepare for it. They had to execute. It's a gutsy call with nobody out and
they executed," Girardi said. "There's nothing you can do. Last year they executed a safety squeeze. This was just a squeeze."
Saturday’s scintillating game began with Michael Young’s single for the Rangers in the very first inning when Bartolo Colon came out to pitch for the Yankees. Derek Holland was successful in pitching his second shut-out inning for the Rangers.
When Colon came in the second inning, little did he realise, or team-mates predict, what was coming their way. David Murphy scored the second run for Texas followed by Borbon, as he tripled to deep centre to earn a much-needed two-run homer for Rangers.
Ian Kinsler did it afterwards, making it 5-0 for the Rangers in the very second inning of the game.
Colon gave up five hits in the second inning, compounding difficulties for the Yankees. However, Holland was in for an equally great surprise, as Mark Teixeira scored the first run for the Yankees, Robinson Cano hit the bigger strike. His three-run homer
took New York closer to the Rangers, with the score standing at 5-4 in the third inning.
Nick Swisher levelled the score in the sixth inning with a homer to right. Texas desperately looked for a tie-breaker, as Boone Logan replaced Colon. The Rangers had seen an opportunity in him.
Logan was subject to massive hits in the sixth inning by Rangers’ hitters. He gave up four hits in the inning that allowed Borbon and Young to score the tie-breaking and winning runs for the Rangers. The score was successfully defended by Neftali Feliz in
the ninth inning, allowing Texas a 7-5 victory over the Yankees.
