Julio Borbon impresses Texas Rangers’ management with hitting, though fielding lacks fire
Julio Borbon has impressed the Texas Rangers’ management with his amazing time with bat, as his fielding is lacking at times. The club has been making good progress in the recent Spring Training sessions and as the Cactus League is continuing into March,
there are good results coming off the squad. Michael Young also got a chance to take part in the game against the Kansas City Royals.
Borbon plays in the centre-field position and he made the best out of his opportunities on the field, as he went 3 for 5 in his last two encounters in the Cactus League. Coming off a good season in the 2010 Major League Baseball campaign, the young gun impressed
the management team as he managed to pile on two excellent doubles from the three hits made on five opportunities.
Furthermore, Borbon pressed on with two base steals on Monday, as the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 12-11 score line. Julio’s fielding was erroneous, as he made two mistakes in the field that allowed the Royals to press on with a come-back. Borbon
conceded a fly-ball catch on Sunday, while on Monday he allowed a ground-ball to slip through his grasp, for a single.
"Defensively, I'm kind of off to a slow start," Borbon said. "If it's going to happen, I would rather have it happen now and mentally correct it. I can't describe it. The only thing I can do is keep my head up and not let it carry over on the offensive side.
There are no excuses."
Manager Ron Washington was able to talk of the problem, concerning Borbon, as he was not going to scrutinize the out-fielder for a couple of errors made in February. The skipper maintained that he would not change the out-field rotation on the basis of an
early hiccup during the Spring Training work-outs.
"Julio can play," Washington said. "Now that he has had a taste of it and has been through his rookie season, he'll be fine. He's my center fielder."
It will be interesting to see how Borbon improves his game, as the regular season is right around the corner.
