Julio Borbon to make a comeback this season for Texas Rangers – MLB News
The Texas Rangers’ outfielder Julio Borbon stated on Saturday, February 4, that he has proven his fitness and that there is no need to put pressure on himself now. His statement comes at a time when injuries had kept him away from the game for a few months.
Appearing in the Dominican Republic's Escogido squad in this week’s Caribbean Series, the player is already effectively and practically demonstrating his fitness, showing he is healthy enough to sustain any pressure.
"There's no reason to put any extra pressure on myself because I've proven that I have the ability to get things done out there when I'm healthy," said Borbon, has not had any hit for few games now. "I know what I can do."
Last year, when he was apparently in a superb form, the player had a wonderful average of .270 in the start of the season. However, as mentioned earlier, it was an injury that resulted in him unable to continue the season.
The hamstring injury culminated with his being reduced to the disabled list. But when he had to return, he was sent to the Minor League. There he was in Triple-A Round Rock and Double-A Frisco, putting a good average of .289, proving he has the ability to
stage a comeback at any point.
His being literally demoted to the Minor League, it is important to note that he has also highlighted the fact that it was not his unimpressive performance, but rather his injury that got him into the Minor Leagues.
"Last season was a tough year overall, but the way I see it, I didn't go down [to Round Rock] because of a lack of performance, it was because of an injury." he said.
Nonetheless, he stands a good chance to be part of the Texas Rangers again; considering the consistency he has shown all this while. With Spring Training to be started this month, he can prove his fitness well enough to be entitled for playing in the Major
League.
The Rangers will be hoping Borbon trains and makes his way back into the team as the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season is just around the corner. It will be interesting to see what type of impact Borbon has on the Rangers.
