Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. faces 3 misdemeanour charges – Boxing News
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., WBC middleweight champion, was charged with DUI following an arrest some weeks back. Now, the L.A. attorney has filed three misdemeanour charges on Julio. Out of the three, two charges are for drunk driving while 1 is for driving
without valid license. It should be noted here that these charges are serious and if Chavez is proved guilty, he can face imprisonment for up to a year and $1,000 fine. Chavez has a hearing later this month where he will present his side of the story.
By now, no updates from the WBC have been received on any disciplinary action against Chavez for his irresponsible behaviour, which could have taken several lives. Considering Dereck Chisora’s recent indefinite ban, it seems like even Chavez will be in the
grip sometime soon.
Chavez has had a tough career since his start. He started his professional career when he was just 17 years old. His fight was against Jonathan Hernandez, which he won in a dominant manner by outpointing Jonathan in six rounds, proving his skills and capabilities
to the world. He soon signed with Top Rank’s Bob Arum and has been flying high since then.
Chavez then went on to defeat Matt Vanda by a split decision on July 12, 2008. Chavez won on two cards and lost on one. The scorecards showed 97-93, 100-90 and 96-95. Chavez soon became a victim of controversial acts when he was suspended for using a banned
diuretic, furosemide, to defeat Troy Rowland. The fight’s result was changed to a ‘no contest’ and Chavez was suspended.
In his comeback fight against John Duddy in San Antonio at the Alamodome, Chavez Jr. won and was appreciated widely for his performance. The fight took place on June 26, 2010.
As of now, Chavez is rated among the top-notch fighters of the world. However, due to his controversial and inappropriate acts, he has become one of the most controversial figures on boxing history. It should be noted here that Chavez has already been warned
by the WBC to have a title defence fight soon. If he goes to jail then probably he will be stripped off his title.
