Julio Cesar Chavez Jr to appear in court in March on charges of drunk driving – Boxing news
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, the undefeated Mexican boxer and the current WBC Middleweight Champion, will be appearing in court on March 16 for his arrest on January 22 for drunk driving in California.
The news of Chavez being arrested remained hidden in the past two weeks since the hype of his bout with Marco Antonio Rubio was on peak. However, now that the dust has settled, new stories are emerging.
Chavez defeated Rubio with a unanimous decision on Saturday night engraving his name in the industry as the undefeated Mexican boxer. He grabbed the vacant WBC Middleweight title, even though he was not in his best form.
Reportedly, Chavez was quite frustrated in the pre-fight weeks due to the weight problems he was facing for the fight. He also admitted that his training was not going up to par since most of his time was consumed in preparing for the weight.
As reports have it, Chavez was arrested by 4:38 in the morning in Los Angeles. The event took place two weeks before the fight materialised. Chavez, who is 25, was booked at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Men’s Central Jail by 7:19 a.m. and was released
by 10:25 a.m., the same morning.
According to his media representative, he will be appearing before the judge in the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
During the fight, it was apparent that Chavez was a bit out of form and he was struggling to get his opponent down, even though Rubio did not pose much of a threat to him. The victory against Rubio bought an end to Chavez’s misery and he said that he will
not be fighting at this weight ever again since it was very tiresome for him to go through the chores.
He said, “I had a little problem with the weight. After the seventh and eighth rounds, my legs, I started to feel them. I was paying the price. Fortunately, he doesn’t hit that hard. I don’t want to battle again with the weight like I did.”
He further said that Rubio is a tough fighter and he was inches close to beating him.
