Julio Cesar Chavez Junior wins over Marco Antonio Rubio but sparks drug controversy - Boxing news
The fight between Marco Antonio Rubio and Julio Cesar Chavez Junior might have ended, but tension between the two camps has just punched off since Rubio camp has vehemently alleged Cesar's side for avoiding and breaking the WBC regulation of leaving the
urine sample after the brawl.
The Alamodome arena situated in San Antonio Texas witnessed two middleweights put up a great 12-round extravaganza, an intense clash in which Julio Cesar Chavez Junior retained his WBC title against his fellow Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio. But things do not
seem to end in a friendly way.
Both men failed to keep up their impressive knockout ability and were not able to blank the other one out as a result the bout ended in a unanimous decision in favour of Chavez Junior. Chavez secured 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113. Things would have proceeded
normally if Cesar should have given the urine sample for the doping evaluation.
But he didn’t do so in fact in the words of Marco’s spokesperson Promociones del Pueblo, “At the end of the fight, in a very suspicious way, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. practically fled from the dressing room without leaving a sample to be medically evaluated
later.”
As per the World Boxing Council’s rules and regulations each and every brawler is bound to give a sample, urine to be specific, after every bout to the concerned local authority, so that he can be examined for the positivity or presence of any prohibited
material in the blood, any material that might enhance the resilience and boost the power of the individual who use it.
The matter became intense when Marco’s side kept on accusing Chavez and the whole squad for allegedly hiding something. In order to corroborate their claim, Team Marco’s people say that during the press conference when Chavez was asked that why he hasn’t
given the sample for the normal checking procedure? Julius just shrugged and ignored the question as if it wasn’t asked at all and went on answering other queries.
Tension between both camps is inclining drastically and most probably boxing fans might see another Amir-Lamont scenario. Oswaldo Kuchle, Rubio’s promoter protested that, “The WBC must respond to this because the people on the champion’s team bypassed the
rules, generating a huge controversy which questions the victory of the current middleweight champion.”
It must be kept in mind that when media personnel asked WBC president Jose Sulaiman about the negligence he just said “we forgot”.
