  1. This is one of the best dream fights ever.  You have one of the toughest, who can keep busy (Chavez)  against one of the busiest, who can take punishment (Armstrong).

Two things you can be sure of.  1. The fight would go the distance because these are two of the toughtst fighters in history, regardless of weight.  2. Chavez would LOOK like the winner.  Both took a lot of punishment.  Chavez often exited the ring LOOKING unscratched.

Imagine if Meldric Taylor were made of "sterner stuff".  This is the fight most would compare this dream fight with.  Taylor hit Chavez with EVERYTHING but he just couldnt take the pounding in return.  Im one of the FEW who feel Richard Steele made the right decision.   THe ugly spectre of Don King looked over and thats why people think Steele saved Chavez' title.   ITs a shame to lose with 2 seconds but I have watched that fight about 20 times (literally).

With each fighter at his best,  the fight would actually take place at 140, not 147.  Armstrong held the welterweight title and SHOULD HAVE held the middleweight title as well (making it his fourth: during a time when there were only a few junior titles).   However,  He was JUST THAT TOUGH.   He was not a natural Welter or Middle.   He was just tough enough to take on the bigger boys.

At 147 Chavez wasnt very effective.  Part of that is due to his many wars at the lower weights.   Had he moved up sooner things might have been different.    De La Hoya beat a shell of the great Chavez.  No doubt in my mind that Chavez would have ruined Oscar at 140.  Oscar is at his best at welter.

Both men are authentically tough and neither is a KO puncher.  Therefore the fight would go the distance.  IF anyone could push Chavez back its Armstrong.  However, he, too, would take an awful lot of punishment.  The difference between Armstrong and Taylor is that Meldric fought a dumb fight.  He had the option to change his tactic.  Armstrong would fight the way he's accustomed to.  He could probably outbox Chavez but thats just not the way he fights.

Henry would LOOK like a wreck but he would be busy enough,  and take enough punishment to win.

    Armstrong by close decision

  2. Hammering Hank would throw punches in bunches and consistantly beat Chavez to the punch. Remember when Chavez fought Taylor? Taylor did not have the power of Armstrong but beat Chavez to the punch for 12 rounds, but got caught. Armstrong would get battered in the process but has a better chin then Taylor. Armstrong in 15 UD.

  3. well henery armstrong was junior ww1938 to 1940 and julio chevez was ww in 1989 to 1994 so no fight there ,henry,s real ring name was melody jackson champ for 19 bouts at his division

  4. Have to go for Armstrong at welter, ding dong battle though!!

  5. at welter , i don't see how hank can lose to jc,

armstrong was voted the second best welter ever recently by ring magazine, while jc peaked at jr welter.

at 147 armstrong by decision or late stoppage.

  6. One of my favorite fighters ''Hammerin Hank'' taking on J.C. Superstar!  Armstrong was like Haleys comet he came around once in a lifetime. Held 3 belts at one time!!!!  And Chavez had a chin and motor that would not quit. I see this going the distance with A LOT of punches being thrown. Maybe a knockdown either way, but a war that would surpass most great boxing wars. Armstrong 's speed would be the deciding factor, he punched from all angles and he would take the decision. Great question!

  7. Wow, you know how to pick em.  At 147 Hank would have been at his best, Chavez a bit heavier than prime, and at that level that would have been all the advantage Armstrong would have needed.  Two of the very best, and 12 lbs. lighter I think Chavez takes Hank, but not at welterweight.

    Armstrong by decision.

  8. chavez no doubt

    thanks
