Julio Chavez Jr. wins decision over Marco Antonio Rubio – Boxing news
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, successfully defended his World Boxing Council middleweight title against Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.
Chavez won a 12-round unanimous decision over the Rubio to retain his title once again.
Chavez had gone through quite a lot of trouble during the past few weeks. He looked disturbed and after the car accident he was involved in, he surely did not seem ready for the fight. Even from the ringside at the Alamodome, Chavez was looking like the
inferior one who was meant to lose, but he overcame the odds and made it to the mark by scores 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113.
Rubio, who was a firm footed challenger, looked high-spirited but lacked the techniques and strength that were required to take down Chavez. Chavez looked fatigued during the last rounds, which was a major opportunity for Rubio to capitalize on, but he could
not.
Rubio could not beat Chavez even when he (Chavez) was in his worst condition. According to Chavez, Rubio did not have enough strength to take him down even though he was very determined.
On this, the winning champion said, “I had a little problem with the weight. After the seventh and eighth rounds, my legs, I started to feel them. I was paying the price. Fortunately, he doesn’t hit that hard. I don’t want to battle again with the weight
like I did.”
Chavez won the title in June 2011 by defeating Sebastian Zbik in Germany with a 12-round decision. This was his second title defence. His first defence was against Peter Manfredo last year in November. As of now, Chavez remains an unbeaten fighter with 46
fights in his bag and 31 knockouts.
A tired and annoyed Chavez, after the fight, realized that he is not up to fighting like this in the future. He further said that he now plans on taking other prominent fighters of the division such as Antonio Margarito, Sergio Martinez and Miguel Cotto.
He asserted, “If I fight like I did today, he would win, but I know what I’m capable of and I will prepare and I will win.”
