Julio Silva crushes Marco Trungelliti in the first round - Sao Leopoldo Challenger 2011
Marco Trungelliti of Argentina met Brazilian, Julio Silva, in the first round of the Sao Leopoldo Challenger tournament, played in Brazil, on Tuesday November 1st. The encounter lasted for an hour and three minutes with
a final score of 6-2, 6-2 in favour the Brazilian.
It was the second encounter between the two players and Silva lead the head-to-head tally with 1-0. He had an advantage of superior ranking, home crowd and a psychological advantage of previous result. He was the clear cut match
favourite and seeing his sublime form in the recent time, it was clear that Argentine was left with negligible chances to advance into the tournament.
The crowd was extremely delighted to see their home boy conquering his opponent in the early stages of the match and allowing no chance whatsoever for his opponent to settle. Brazilian seemed to have completely submerged the visitor
with flurry of versatile shots and all-round trouncing.
Visitor was in disarray from the start and couldn’t absorb the pressure and couldn’t play his natural game at all. Home boy started proceedings with a successful break and struck two fierce aces in the second game to take 2-0 lead
upfront.
In the next four games both players met blow to blow and held on to their serves to push the score to 4-2. Brazilian dodged his opponent with a delicately placed drop shot that earned him another break in the seventh game.
The local boy won the set with a perfectly placed backhand at the corner of court and doubled the misery for the visitor; now he was trailing with one set down with everything going against him. It required a miraculous comeback
to bounce back into the match and improve his chances but its probability was very close to null.
Nothing much changed in the second set for the visitor whose misery continued to increase with every point won by the Brazilian. Four aces were equally shared in the second set. Brazilian earned two successive breaks to take 4-0
lead upfront and clearly nothing was going right for the visitor at all.
Both players held on to their serves in the four games. Trungelliti couldn’t even earned a single opportunity to break and it sums up his performance throughout the match. It was one of those days he would like to forget as soon
as possible.
Brazilian won 61% of the total points played and was successful on 63% times on his first serve which shows his clear domination at the pitch. He marches into the next round in a terrific manner having thumped his opponent in all
corners of the court.
Julio Silva faces-off eighth seed Wayne Odesnik in the second round of the tournament.
