Julio Silva overpowers Alejandro Gonzalez to advance into round three – Seguros Bolivar Open 2012 CH
Brazilian veteran, Julio Silva, eased into the third round of the Seguros Bolivar Open after defeating the local participant, Alejandro Gonzalez, in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, in Bucaramanga. The contest was even-steven in the first
half of the match but the Brazilian picked up the momentum in the second half to oust his opponent.
Eighth seed Brazilian contestant triumphed over Gonzalez for the third time in his professional career on Thursday. Colombian is yet to get off the mark and still hunts his first win over the Brazilian. A sizeable crowd was present
at the arena to support the local participant but they were left dejected after a sub-standard performance from their hero in the second set of the match.
The contest started with an enthralling battle between the two players; first game was extended for over ten minutes before the Brazilian tennis ace wrong footed the Colombian by playing a marvellous cross court winner to earn
the first breakthrough. He held his serve to push the scores to 2-0 and the game progressed without much drama. Both players hung on to their serves before the local boy won a vital breakpoint in the sixth game to level the scores at 3-3.
Gonzalez was made to work extremely hard in the ninth game to hold his serve; after battling for more than fifteen minutes that included five deuces; held his serve to save the set from drifting away from him. In the eleventh game
of the set, Silva once again pounded on his opponent’s serve with breathtaking winners. This time the Brazilian successfully broke serve after three deuces to take the lead that was absolutely critical at that stage. He held his serve to name the first set
in his favour.
Start to the second set was terrific for the Brazilian as he broke serve in the first game of the set for the second time in the match. Silva held his serve to build upon that initial lead. At the end of four games, scores were
pushed to 3-1 in Silva’s favour. Three successive breakthroughs for both players were shared in the ratio of 2:1 for Silva. The scenario was set for the Brazilian to bag the second set, as he prepared himself to serve for the match. He successfully held his
serve with no problem at all; deserved to win for his masterful performance in the second set after a hard fought battle in the first half.
