Julio Teheran’s pitching helps Atlanta Braves rout New York Mets 5-1 – Game 2: MLB Update
Atlanta Braves’ starting pitcher, Julio Teheran had a remarkable day with his pitching as he pitched just over five innings and had three strike-outs with an ERA of 3.86 in the Braves’ 5-1 win against the New York Mets at Citi Field, New York on September
8.
The two teams got their initial runs during the first inning as the Braves scored a single run and the Mets also added one run at the bottom of first inning to tie the game 1-1. Michael Bourn scored the first run for the Braves when Dan Uggla drove a single-run
shot towards centre-field. On the other hand, Jose Reyes added the first run for the Mets to level the game when Jason Bay hit a sacrifice fly to centre-field.
Second to the fourth innings were score-less as the pitchers pitched in perfect line. Jim Thole singled towards right-centre at the bottom of second inning but Ruben Tejada fouled out, Reyes lined out and Dillon Gee got out to second base. Braves were also
powerless at the top of fourth inning as Uggla and Freeman both flied out towards right-field and Heyward struck-out looking.
Braves went ahead 2-1 during fifth inning when David Ross hit a single-run drive towards centre-field and Prado added a single run. The pitchers threw superbly in the sixth inning to restrict the batters. Teheran permitted one run, two walks, one earned
run and five hits on his respective 90 pitches.
Jones said, “It was a good day for us especially after this weekend -- or this week in Philly -- to come back and right the ship. Got two pretty good starts for some young guys, got some offense finally, too.”
Ross commented on Jones and said, “He hit a homer and then I took BP with his bat and said 'I had a good BP,' and he said I should use that. I was like, 'Well, it feels good.'”
In the seventh inning, Jack Wilson scored a single run to give the Braves a 3-1 lead when Chipper Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left-field. Braves took a 5-1 lead during ninth inning by blasting two runs. Ross struck a solo homer (426 feet) to centre-field.
The second or last run was taken by Bourn when Jones doubled to right-field.
As a result, Braves swept the Mets 2-0 in the two-game series played at Citi Field.
