Julio Velasco wants his squad to play in the FIVB World Cup - Volleyball news
The head coach of the Iranian men’s volleyball team, Julio Velasco, made a recent announcement in which he stated his intention of securing the 16th Asian Volleyball Championship that is scheduled to start today and last until the 29th of September.
The eyes of coach Velasco were looking beyond the present tournament however, as the Iranian head coach wants a free pass for his team into the FIVB World Cup that will be played in the month of November with Japan acting as the host.
Velasco, who belongs to Argentina originally explained himself by saying that, “the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship held at Iran is very important in Asian volleyball and for Iran in hosting this tournament.”
The teams that would be able to secure the top positions in the World Cup will be earning themselves a ticket into the London 2012 Olympics. Velasco is not aiming as high as the Olympics yet but if his team does make it to the World Cup, the Olympics will
be the top priority on the mind of the coach.
Velasco holds an impressive record of honing teams that he works with. Seeing his credentials, Velasco has been given full support by the Iran Volleyball Federation in his efforts to make the Iranian men’s volleyball team a force to reckon with in the international
arena.
The strategy that Velasco would follow to achieve this goal revolves around bringing about innovation to the training that is being carried out. This includes psychological as well as physical training. The players will be coached to cope with the pressure
of playing a game by developing positive mind sets that go a long way in generating confidence that can steer a team out of a difficult spot.
The coach also went on to talk about the pressure of expectation that players and teams feel when they performan infront of a home crowd. He went on to say, "For the players, playing at home is a very stressful situation because everybody expects a victory,
so they are under pressure for that. It is very important to create an atmosphere with our fans - a positive atmosphere – not to come to the hall to see how the team wins but to help the team to win,” Velasco added.
