I see that Adam Dunn just got traded from the Reds to the D'Backs. Is the July 31 trading deadline for interleague trades, e.g., Teixara from Braves to Angeles, Manny from Bosox to LAD.

  1. July 31st is the deadline for trades that do not require a player to clear waivers before the deal can be completed....they will never stipulate when you can make deals between leagues.  After a player clears waiver they can be traded up unitl August 31st, if the player does not make it through waivers without being claimed, like say Brian Giles, then the team who owns his rights has 48 hours to negotiate a trade with the team that has claimed him or rescind the waiver request altoghter and keep the player.

  2. no the july 31st deadline is for the marquis players.  For a player to be traded after the deadline of jul 31st, he would first ahve to clear waivers before they can be traded, and those are usually the guys with the huge contracts that arent worth it(dunn) or guys who aren't wanted by other teams.

  3. It has nothing to do with the 'status' or caliber of a player.  The non-waiver deadline is July 31, but players can still be traded.  The just have to pass through waivers (which means any team can claim them, in an order based on standings). If a player is claimed, he can be pulled off waiver and kept on the original team, traded to the team that wins the claim, or release to that team.

The leagues/divisions/etc... have nothing to do with it.
