July Cup next for Sole Power – Horseracing News
After doing a fabulous job at the Royal Ascot, Sole Power is all set to take on his opponents in the July Cup.
According to his trainer Edward Lynam, “Sole Power has taken Royal Ascot in his stride and it’s all systems go for the July Cup. We are very hopeful that he will last out the extra distance. Johnny [Murtagh, his regular jockey] is very confident that he will stay the six furlongs and he settles so much better in his races nowadays so we have decided to give it a go.”
He added, “It took a while but Sole Power finally seems to have got the hang of Newmarket’s Rowley Mile judged on his victory in the Palace House Stakes [on May 4].”
Although the six-year-old gelding has been unable to maintain a decent winning percentage, his current form is what matters. He has enjoyed a very good season thus far and will definitely be a force to reckon with in the upcoming events.
In his most recent outing at Ascot, the seasoned stallion caused a huge upset, defeating Shea Shea by a neck distance. He had entered that race with a starting price of 8 to 1 and was expected to be competitive. However, no one could have thought that he would end up defeating such a powerful runner.
Sole Power has managed to win a couple of races this season, which shows that he is doing a really good job and the hard work of his camp has finally paid off. Last time when he won more than one race in a season was back in 2010. Other than that, his performances have been highly inconsistent.
The talented runner will be looking to win more races this year in order to win the confidence of the punters in every race. He will not find it easy though, as there are some extremely good challengers lining up for the July Cup.
Amongst those runners, Shea Shea will also be looking to avenge the loss he had suffered at Ascot in June. He is a quality stallion and has proved that over the years, winning 10 races out of 20.
