Julyana Kury Matheus dominates Women’s 100m IM semi-final – Jose Finkel Trophy
Julyana Kury Matheus of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM dominated top qualification spot in the semi-final of Women’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, August 22.
Kury Matheus lived up to the expectations of her supporters by dominating the semi-final of Women’s 100m discipline. With her epic pace and commendable start, she showed no leniency to her opponents and qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold
medal.
Her impeccable pace placed her half body length ahead of her following swimmer as she tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 02.94 seconds.
Her fastest qualification spot of the event was followed by Flavia Delaroli-Cazziolato of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.56 seconds apart and ended second in the race by reporting a time of 1 minute and 03.50 seconds.
Third fastest qualification spot of the race was secured by Ana Carolina Alves de Azambuja of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who suffered a loss of 0.40 seconds and finished her race in a time of 1 minute and 03.90 seconds.
Subsequently, Azambuja was followed by Alessandra Marchioro of FFC/RJ, who remained just 0.10 seconds behind and submitted a time of 1 minute and 04.00 seconds for fourth position.
Marchioro was trailed by Bruna Caroline Lemos Rocha of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.07 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was secured by Daniele Paoli Jesus of ECP/SABESP, who was only 0.22 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 04.29 seconds.
Paoli Jesus was followed by Lorrane Cristina Ferreira of FIAT/MINAS, who remained almost half a body length apart and secured seventh position of the event with a timing of 1 minute and 04.83 seconds.
Ferreira was traced by Rebeca Bianca Bretanha of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who was only 0.01 seconds apart and secured eighth best qualifying position of the race with a timing of 1 minute and 04.84 seconds.
Furthermore, Matheus was confident that she would be able to win gold medal in the playoff.
