  1. another great topic, which jumpcues are a big petpeve of mine, as im a great jumper of the ball with my playing cue, and if i set up a jumpout safety, to only few are able to jump it with his playing cue. and they easially hop right over it with a jumpcue. ive seen so many great saftys played in matches, where even a great jumper with his playcue, cannot get it up n down fast enough, and they pull out the jumpcue and hop over the ball 2 to 3 inches away. i do not agree with jumpcues. 1 of the main reasons they allow them in tournys, is because pool is starved 4 tourny endorsments, and many jumpcues put their banners up at them, and contribute to the  prize money. I believe jumpcues take away from the skill of alot of great saftys, and overshadow the skill of great jumpers with their playing cue. i'd rather have no jumping at all, b4 they would allow jumpcues. let the cream rise to the top. just my thoughts

  2. I'm not sure who first started making them or using them, but the BCA has had it's current rules on jump cues since 1998. So they will have been around since before that obviously.                                                                                                                                                                                                 I can clearly remember seeing them used by lots of people about 6 or 7 years ago. I guess thats when they hit the main stream around these parts.

  3. Thats the old and better rule Dragon I have never liked it But 7-8 years ago it really got popular its older than that but not mainstream

To me its kinda Chicken Stuff way to play

but they like it I just laugh when they try it.Except for Hillbilly Charlie form NC he is deadly

  4. Jumping the cue ball was made legal in an attempt to make the professional game more exciting and thereby increase pool's (especially 9 ball) commercial appeal. I don't think it really worked that well, but I don't think there's anything wrong with jumping. It's not exactly an easy skill to master, even with a jump cue, and it adds some fun to the game. There's really no reason for it to be illegal either. You're making a legal hit on the cue ball and it's popping in the air. Who's going to decide when "accidentally" jumping the ball with a legal hit is a foul if jumping is not legal?

All a jump cue is essentially is a regular cue with a hard tip made to be the minimum allowable length, which I don't think was ever changed to allow for jump cues. There are some other design features, but at long as it has a hard, large tip, and a fairly strong taper, it's a good jump cue. I'm sure the popularity of building cues just for jumping came into fashion as soon as jumping became tournament legal in 1998.

Oh, and my dad's had a "jump cue" for over 30 years. The short cue that he bought with his table to hit the ball in tight corners is a great little jumper.

  5. When players realized it would cause Earl "THE GIRL" Stickbreaker to blow a fuse!!!

  6. I have never played it where you can jump a ball to hit the object ball, I would say it's a foul!, otherwise what kind of defense can you play, if you jump the ball?

You can probably get away with it sometimes, if you slightly go a little higher, to get aound a ball, I would call a foul on it, either way.The Que is not supposed to leave the surface of the table..

EDIT-You know what Johnny, I ve been in Europe, a little more than that, And I thought they were just playing stupid, and I got into arguments about it.

That has the worst thing they ever allowed in Pool, The jump shot and the Que to make it, should both be banned from the game. Honestly I never thought they would do something like that, It really cheapens the game, and sorry bones, you can be great at them, but it's not pool.

Why not let the opponent push the shooters shot out of the pocket, or be allowed to put a beer bottle in front of it.

I thought I gave a good answer!, unbelievable!
