Question:

Jump serving?

I've been trying to teach myself how to jump serve over the summer so I can come back this season and show my coach how much I've improved. I have to toss and the footwork down, but I keep hitting the ball off my wrist instead of my hand. I'm pretty sure this means I'm too late when I hit but I don't know how to fix it. Any other good jump serving tips?

  1. try to wait like a half a second longer before u start your approach .then do you approach faster and jump higher. Its gonna take you a while to find a routine and the timing that works best for you but keep  trying.. Good Luck : D

  2. that is completely based on timing now... if you have everything down and still mising the "sweet spot" (as i call it ;D ) just tweak the timing a little... maybe toss lower or after the first step... it just depends on how your individual body is most comfortable. me- i have to toss after the first step or i totally blow it... but best of luck to you and hope this helped!!!

  3. I would toss the ball a little higher so that you have more time to time your run

  4. If you are hitting the ball with your wrist, you either a little early or tossing it too low.  You are already on your way down when the ball gets to your hand/wrist.  Or you are not tossing it high enough.  I agree with nato6.  It is easier to toss the ball about 6 inches to 1 foot higher than change your timing.

  5. Couldn't agree with Gordon more... He nailed it.  One thing I was taught and standby when I teach.  There is no such thing as too high of a toss, unless you are hitting the ceiling.  The higher the toss the better the serve.
