  1. Sorry to break the news, but i dont think your little paint can jump that high

  2. 5ft, is a tall order for most horses. Its impossible to tell over the internet, wether he has the heart, strength, and conformation, for this kind of thing.

Just keep doing ground work, and small jumps, and work your way up. You probably will be able to get somewhere near 5ft.

  3. Sorry, but it's impossible for us to answer that question.  The answer depends upon:

The horse's athletic ability, and mental inclination

Your ability to train him to jump

What you mean by "big jumps"

The horse's height is not a big factor, within certain parameters, of course.  Remember Charisma?  And Teddy O'Conner?

  4. i would wait just a little bit longer untill you get him into the big jumps...

i would also gradually build up...

like do 2 ft. for about 2 weeks..

then once he gets used to that and is comfortable with it...

    go to 3ft...

    and so forth....

    hope this helps!!!

    :]

  5. His conformation, natural ability, willingness and training will play into wether he can jump 'big jumps'. How high are you wanting to go?

EDIT: I am betting by the time you hit 3' or so you would have out grown him anyway. Most horses can get up to that height with good training and willingness. It might not be pretty but he can probably get to 3'.

EDIT:EDIT: I see him going up to maybe 3'. He looks like he has a naturally downhill build which will present a problem later on. If you are just now doing 2' then I wouldnt be to worried. It will be awhile before you even get near 5'. Why do you have to keep him till he dies? I understand keeping then for their retirement once you have worked them their entire life but in a couple years when he is 10 (and still has a lot of life left in him) why cant you sell him to a girl for her first beginner horse and find a new more sutiable horse for yourself.

  6. Well 4yrs old is a little young to start jumping. Just spend time riding and working him on the ground. Umm a 15hh at an older age can jump. But It puts too much stree on a 4yr old to jump"big jumps".

  7. It depends if your horse is physically and mentally able to jump and its based on its natural ability. I would put him and training and see how your horse does, if he is capable, then you can test him to see what height you can bring both u and your horse up to.

    Good Luck!

  8. five feet is really pushing it, but as the other posters said, it depends on the heart of the horse. my quarter would jump anything you pointed him at, even if he couldnt possibly clear it. but be careful, because the stock-type horses like QHs and paints can easily tear up their shoulders when they jump over four foot. before you start getting into the bigger stuff, i would definately have a vet do an exam and a lameness evaluation, just to be safe.

  9. probably it depends on his build really. like friesians arent REALLY drafty but they cant jump so high, hanovarions and tbs and qhs can jump much higher.

    He sounds very cute though
