Pakistan’s young left-arm fast bowler, Junaid Khan, is happy to have made a successful return to international cricket and hopes that he will be able to win the selectors’ confidence in the shorter versions of the game as well.
The 22-year-old has struggled in the last 12 months with fitness issues as he tore his abdominal muscle during the series against Sri Lanka in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and missed the Asia Cup 2012 this year because of a knee problem.
The Matra-born cricketer made a return to the Test side in the recently concluded tour of Sri Lanka and earned a lot of accolades from the cricketing fraternity for bowling his heart out on flat tracks, picking up 14 scalps in three matches at 21.78.
Junaid expressed that many former cricketers were raising question marks about his fitness before the tour, naturally putting him under pressure. On top of that, the Island never provides help to the fast bowler, making things difficult for the left-armer.
“A lot of people started discussing my situation,” Junaid expressed. “They started predicting my future due to repeated injuries at such a young age. I was positive but remained under a lot of pressure and was scared before the series. I had also heard of
Sri Lanka conditions that don't favour fast-bowlers like they help the spinners. So all this made the return very difficult.”
The youngster is considered to be an ideal replacement of the banned http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779 after the series, who noted immense potential
in the fast bowler.
The speedster hopes that that his brilliant performance will earn him a recall in the limited-overs team, when the selectors sit together to finalise the squad for the upcoming series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in UAE. However, Junaid wants to carry forward the momentum
in the longer version of the game, without getting complacent.
He added, “I am hoping that I get selected for the series against Australia but if I'm overlooked I will continue working hard in Tests.”
