The former cricketer/selector, Shoaib Mohammad, has backed the left-arm fast bowler Junaid Khan to come good in the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 and urged the team management to trust the youngster’s abilities.
The 22-year-old has struggled with injuries in the current year and was rested for the Asia Cup 2012. The cricketer from Matra made a comeback to the national team for the tour of Sri Lanka but looked rusty in the first Test at Galle.
The left-arm fast bowler however, came back hard in the second innings and picked up three cheap scalps. There are some former cricketers who want http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aizaz-Cheema-c961 in the playing-XI in place of the youngster.
Sri Lanka posted a massive total of 472 runs in the first innings, which laid the platform for their victory in the match and the Pakistani bowling attack has been criticised for the ineffective performance.
Shoaib, while speaking to Pakpassion, said that he is also not happy with the current bowling attack, which looks weak ever since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 have been banned from competitive cricket. However, the former opening batsman does
not want Sami to be brought back in the team as the fast bowler can be extremely wayward at times.
“You cannot expect miracles from this current bowling attack, as even http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 is not performing to his potential. At the moment, the opening bowling combination does not seem to be working too well. I would advise against bringing in Mohammed Sami, as he
allows batsmen to score freely,” the former selector said.
Shoaib, who represented the Green Shirts in 1980s and 1990s, is of the opinion that Junaid has the ability to become one of the world’s leading fast bowlers but for that to happen, the team management and the captain must persist with him.
He expressed, “I think Junaid Khan should and will probably be played ahead of Mohammad Sami. He is a youngster and there shouldn't be gaps between matches that he is selected for. Since they have brought him on the tour, he needs to be given a complete
run.”
