Jung Jae Sung - Lee Yong Dae eye to lift title at the 2011 World Championships – Badminton news
Korea’s top shuttlers, Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae are ready to compete in the Men’s Doubles draw of the 2011 World Championships, starting from Monday, August 8, in London, England.
Sung Jae and Lee Yong, who are currently placed at Number Three in the Men’s Doubles world rankings, will be playing together after a gap of almost two months. Their last event was the 2011 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series, in which they received severe
treatment from Indonesia’s Ryan Agung Saputra and Angga Pratama in the second round.
After the Indonesia Open, Lee Yong played with a different partner, Ko Sung Hyun in the US Open Grand Prix Gold and Canada Open Grand Prix. The Koreans clinched titles in both the respective events.
Rexy Mainaky, Malaysian Doubles coach, while speaking about the performance of the pair in the recent past, said, “This Korean pair has been inconsistent since winning the Korea Open Premier Super Series this year. They have lost to several lower ranked
pairs.”
The coach was hopeful that the break might have helped the shuttlers to re-group and comeback strongly. Rexy added, “The short break may actually turn out to be a blessing in disguise for them. They may come into the world meet hungry to win the world title
for the first time.”
While talking about the pairing of Lee Yong and Sung Hyun, Rexy said, “Although the new partnership of Yong-dae-Sung-hyun is a good option, I think it would be risky to pair them up in the midst of the London Olympic Games qualifying period.”
The third seed Korean pair will be looking forward to end their title long draught in the Men’s Doubles category, as the last time the nation won the crown in Men’s Doubles was at the 1999 World Championships.
Now, the duo of Lee Yong and Jung Jae has the chance to grab the title, as they are the major contenders in the event and have the ability to beat all top shuttlers in badminton.
