Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae win Men’s Doubles title in the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Korea’s Jung Jae Sung and Lee Yong Dae have secured the Men’s Doubles title after beating Indonesia’s Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan, in the final match of the Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, at Bangkok. The encounter was held on Sunday,
June 12.
The top seeded pair of Jae Sung and Yong Dae, who are currently ranked at the Number Two position in the Men’s Doubles world standings, took two sets of 42 minutes to chuck-out the World Number Ten duo of Alvent Yulianto and Hendra Aprida, who were the fourth
seed in the event.
The opening set of the final battle was thrilling for the packed indoor arena, as both pairs put up an incredible show of fantastic badminton. Both teams displayed the highest level of the game and played at their best, by utilising their extensive experience
on the court.
Jae Sung and Yong Dae played a fast and attacking game against the spirited Indonesians, who were putting up a good show by giving their opponents a stiff fight. The score from both sides remained tight until the end of the opening half of the set, where
the Koreans were leading the game with an 11-10 margin.
The second part of the game was also thrilling, as the score progressed closely until 22-22. At this crucial stage, the top seeds smartly grabbed two points and clinched the set by a 24-22 score on the board, in 26 minutes.
In the second game, Jae Sung and Yong Dae started to play aggressive badminton. They managed to put pressure on Alvent Yulianto and Hendra Aprida, who became a little confused in the first part of the second game.
Jae Sung and Yong Dae spared no chance for the Indonesians to fight back in the match and finished the game by winning it with a big margin of 21-14, in just 16 minutes. The 42-minute final match ended with the victory of the Koreans with a margin of 24-22
and 21-14.
