Jung Kyung Eun - Kim Ha Na penetrate into Women’s Doubles final of the US Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
Korea’s Jung Kyung Eun and Kim Ha Na penetrated into Women’s Doubles final as they defeated Cheng Wen Hsing and Chien Yu Chin of Chinese Taipei in the semi-final of the US Open Grand Prix Gold, in USA, on Friday, July 15.
World Number 31 pair of Jung Kyung and Kim Ha, who is the eighth seeded duo in the tournament, stunned the top seeds and World Number Two, Chen Wen and Chien Yu in a thrilling battle which took three-sets of breathtaking badminton from both sides.
Jung Kyung and Kim Ha opened their campaign in a shaky manner against the higher ranked opponents. The top seed Taipei pair worked really well in the opening set, as they were in good control of the rallies. The Taipei shuttlers were playing better badminton
at the net area and were successful in building pressure on the Koreans, who played a negative game in the end and lost the set by the score of 18-21, in 19 minutes.
The Korean duo made an impressive comeback in the second set, when they played attacking badminton to push their challengers on the back foot. The top seeds worked hard to release the pressure by picking the bird early from the net, but failed as they could
not place their shots in the right areas.
The Korean duo maintained their dominant position in the whole second set and clinched it with a margin of 21-17, by taking a court time of 16 minutes. The top seeds completely failed to stop the powerful run of their rivals in this set.
The third game was highly entertaining, where both pairs closely progressed towards the ending points. The score entered into the concluding phase of the third game, where the Koreans played composed badminton and won the set by a 21-19 difference in 20
minutes. The end result of this interesting 55-minute rubber-set match was 18-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
In the Women’s Doubles final, Jung Kyung and Kim Ha will face team-mates, Ha Jung Eun and Kim Min Jung, who defeated second seeds and World Number Three, Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna of Japan in the semi-final.
