Juninho Pernambucano wishes to return to Olympique de Lyonnais
Former Olympique de Lyonnais star, Juninho Pernambucano has expressed his desire to return to the French club. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 and has been playing in the Middle-Eastern nation since then. However,
the Brazilian’s contract with the Qatari club, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Gharafa-c38306, will end in June and the Brazilian is likely to leave the club when the contract expires.
Since the departure of their talismanic skipper, Olympique de Lyonnais have struggled to assert their authority in the French league. The influential playmaker, however, still believes that Lyon are a force to be reckoned with.
While talking to official FIFA website, the Brazilian said:
"There’ll never be just one team that always wins everything. We pulled off an exceptional run by winning seven league titles in a row. Winning is hard, and it’s even harder to keep winning. But Lyon have kept a competitive side together, one which reached
the semi-finals of the Champions League - something that I was never able to do."
Juninho also said that he is not irreplaceable at the club and added that his team has moved on after his departure, "In terms of me leaving the club, I genuinely think that nobody is irreplaceable, except perhaps the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pele-c40189 and Ronaldo when they
hung up their boots, or http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 in the future.”
Although Lyon have managed to move on since the Brazilian’s exit, there is no doubt that the player has left his mark in the club’s illustrious history. Juninho also added that he would want to return to the club at some point, where it all began for him.
Juninho also pointed out that he wants to take up a role at the club where he can guide the Lyon-based side to further greatness, exceeding his accomplishments as a player.
Juninho signed with Olympique de Lyonnais in the summer of 2001 from Brazilian giants, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vasco-da-Gama-c40872. The move later turned out to be a great one for both the player and the French club. Lyon went on to lift the French Ligue 1 Championelle seven times on
the trot. Apart from winning the league, Juninho won the Trophee Des Champions (thrice) and the Coupe de la http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 with Les Gones.
That spell at Stade de Gerland was easily Juninho’s best ever as a professional footballer. Since Juninho’s departure from the club, Lyon have not won the Ligue 1. It might be a good move for Lyon if Juninho indeed makes a return to the club when he hangs
his boots in a few years time.
