Question:

Junior Certificate advice?

I need advice about the Junior certificate exams.Past pupils? How much studying did you do and what grades did you get? Seriously worried about taking it this year and I am under a lot of pressure from teachers and the will-power for studying does not come easily to me, in fact I have no will power to study. Home ec is the worst because our teacher would not know how to teach a fish to swim. And Maths is pretty confusing too, because I am not allowed down to pass level for any subject. Any advice?

  1. I'm doing my leaving cert so I know how you're feeling! lol-you've probably heard this a million times but 'DONT worry about these exams!' seriously junior cert is only a mock for the leaving cert. the way I see it, if you show up for class, pay attention and do your homework every day you're halfway there to getting great marks. we didn't have mocks for junior cert in my school and being honest I didn't actually start studying properly until Easter midterm, 2-3 hours every day from then on and I got 10 out of 11 honours in my junior cert. (I got a D in honours maths. I hate maths lol, if you really want to do pass, you should be allowed to do it. you're the one who will be sitting the exam so it's your decision) with studying just don't over do it, ignore all the people who say they're not studying and-even worse-the ones who say they're doing like 6 hours every day. just do what you can-good luck!

  2. Good advice already given above.

Past papers are the best way of testing yourself and seeing how much ground you still have to cover. Do as many as you can from as many years back as you can find. Watch out for science, though, it's a new syllabus now so make sure you don't any free past papers from well-meaning friends that are well out of date.

  3. 9 honours!

Firstly Stop stressing!!! I wasn't really one for study either, Home Ec is basic common sense my teacher was c**p and I hated it but got a B+. Check past papers and memorize a couple of recipes. Math is based on fact-there is no room for bull s**t-learn your formulas and be careful with your rough work.

Like I said earlier check out past papers-familiarise yourself with how questions are worded(a question from last year is unlikley to be asked again this year)

For English make sure you know your Irish poets!!!

Good Luck-and remember it's the Junior cert-it's really only a practice for the big one.
