Junior National Badminton Championship: Ketan Chahal topples Arjun M. R. in qualifying round
India’s aggressive young shuttler Ketan Chahal easily penetrated into Men’s Singles U19 main round after putting up a strong show against Arjun M. R. in qualifying round contest at 37th Junior National Badminton Championship-2012 in India, on
Sunday, November 11.
The higher ranked Ketan, who was the sixth seeded player in Men’s Singles draw in qualifying round, played with precision and stamped his mark over his un-seeded opponent Arjun in a lopsided manner.
Ketan was in charge of rallies as he controlled the pace from the initial stage and easily registered a comprehensive victory over Arjun in straight sets with a completely one-sided margin on the board.
The lower ranked Arjun, on the other hand, was helpless on court as he could not create gaps in his opponent’s court and also execute negative shots. He failed to match the pace of rallies and lost the match with a huge deficit.
Ketan showed an amazing aggression from the initial stage of first set and he did not take much time in setting up an early lead without facing any trouble.
The speed of rallies was very fast and Ketan pushed his opponent in all corners without facing any problem at all and eventually took a staggering lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Ketan progressed with a superb speed while remaining confident in the arena and maintained the gap on score board by pushing his rival on back foot.
The aggressive Ketan did not face any problem from his opponent and bagged the first game with a superb 21-13 difference on the board.
In the second set, the un-seeded Arjun tried his best to show aggression on court but failed to shake the confidence of his opponent who was flawless in playing attacking badminton.
After the break, hard to return smashes of Ketan helped him to stay in commanding position. He easily managed to keep his rival struggling hard in returning the well executed shots in all corners.
Ketan was in complete control of rallies in the ending points and he won the second set quite easily with a surprising 21-9 score on the board.
The sixth seeded Ketan emerged as the winner against Arjun in this Men’s Singles U19 qualifying round battle with a crushing margin of 21-13 and 21-9.
