Junior National Badminton Championship: Reshma Karthik overpowers Ruthvika Shivani G. in semi-final
India’s talented girl, Reshma Karthik has proved that she possesses the skill to become a top class shuttler as she has reached into Girl’s Singles U17 final after defeating Ruthvika Shivani G. in the semi-final contest of 36th National Junior Badminton Championship 2012, on Saturday, February 11, in India.
Reshma was the third seed in the Girls Singles draw of the tournament and impressed the crowd by delivering a stunning performance in all matches in the championship. She continued her winning streak in the semi-final and defeated her higher ranked rival in three games.
On the other hand, the second seeded Ruthvika failed to live up to expectations as she could not focus in the deciding game and lost the match in 51 minutes.
In the opening game, the higher ranked Ruthvika could not take lead as her rival also played at the similar level. They progressed closely in the opening set and also continued playing at the similar standard until the score reached at 17-17.
At this stage Ruthvika played terrific badminton as she spared no chance for her rival to dominate the pace of game. On the other hand, Reshma played a few negative strokes and eventually lost the set with a margin of 17-21.
In the second set, both ladies played fast and thrilling badminton and remained toe-to-toe until the score reached at 13-13. They did not miss any chance to win points by ending the rallies.
However, at the concluding stage, Reshma played to her maximum speed and managed to win the set with a comfortable score of 21-16.
In the final set, both ladies put up tremendous show as they played positive badminton and remained equal until 6-6. At this stage, Reshma took over the control and started to move her opponent in all corners of the court. Until the break, she was ahead at 11-8.
After the break, Reshma continued her positive play and did not execute negative strokes which helped her to win the deciding set with a convincing 21-16 margin on the score board.
This Girl’s Singles U17 semi-final contest ended in 51 minutes with a difference of 17-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
