Junior National Badminton Championship: Rituparna Das bags Girl’s Singles U17 title – Badminton news
Rituparna Das, an emerging female shuttler of India showed her brilliance and bagged Girl’s Singles U17 title after crushing Reshma Karthik in the final encounter of 36th Junior National Badminton Championship in India, on Sunday, February 12.
Rituparna, who was placed at number four in Girl’s Singles seeding, proved her impressive skills and overpowered her higher ranked opponent Reshma, who was the third seed in the tournament.
Reshma played convincing badminton in the opening set but unluckily lost it with a narrow margin. In the second game, she failed to stop the winning run of her opponent and lost it with a huge difference.
The starting rallies of first set were favourable for Rituparna in which she faced no resistance from her higher ranked challenger. She played an attacking game and did not miss any chance to hit the bird hard and finish the rallies.
Rituparna remained positive in the opening half of first set and maintained pressure on Reshma, who was trailing far behind. Until the one-minute interval, Rituparna managed a four-point advantage by reaching at 11-7.
After the break, Reshma changed her game plan and started to execute net shots. She remained positive and also did not spare any gap for her rival to place strokes. She managed to level the score at 11-11 when Rituparna again started to dominate the pace.
Rituparna pushed her opponent in the corners of rear-court area and dominated the rallies at net. She continued her positive and fast play and kept her higher ranked challenger moving in all corners.
The in-form Rituparna was composed in the concluding half but her rival also elevated her play and again managed to level the score at 20-20.
At this stage, Rituparna showed her brilliance as she played smart game at net and won the set with a close margin of 22-20.
In the second game, Rituparna controlled the pace from starting points and did not let her opponent to play freely. She put pressure on Reshma and maintained it throughout the game.
Rituparna did not waste any time in the second game and finished it with an impressive score of 21-14. The overall score of this 26-minute Girl’s Singles final contest was 22-20 and 21-14.
