Junior National Badminton Championship: Sameer Verma becomes Boy’s Singles U19 National Champion
India’s impressive shuttler, Sameer Verma delivered a fabulous performance as he nailed Boy’s Singles U19 title after beating Rohit Yadav C. in the final encounter of 36th Junior National Badminton Championship, on Sunday, February 12, in India.
Sameer, who was top seed in Boy’s Singles draw, showed his incredible skills throughout the tournament and became the National Champion in emphatic fashion. He defeated the second seed Rohit in straight games by taking 42 minutes.
The top seed Sameer remained impressive throughout the championship as he did not lose even a single set in any match and also ended the final contest in the similar fashion.
The first set of the title match was thrilling as both shuttlers played to their maximum potential by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level. Sameer played impressive game at net but failed to take lead as his opponent was also taking the bird early at net.
Rohit played to his maximum speed in the opening half and did not let his higher ranked challenger to set up a gap. Until the break, he was just behind Sameer at 9-11.
After the break, Sameer injected more power into his shots and started to dictate the pace of rallies. His smooth movement and sharp reflexes troubled the flow of his rival, who remained struggling to return the shots in the right areas.
Sameer did not lose his grip over the control of rallies and continued his dominating run throughout the concluding half. He took the first set with a five-point advantage of 21-16.
In the second game, Rohit played fast badminton in the first few rallies but failed to compete well as his rival increased his speed. Sameer started to build lead as he played with precision and remained successful in creating a wonderful gap of 11-5 until the break.
After the interval, Rohit accelerated his speed and managed to reduce the difference. However, he failed to level the score as his rival controlled the pace of rallies at the concluding phase.
Sameer was composed in the ending points of second game and finished it with a margin of 21-16. This Boy’s Singles U19 final clash ended in 42 minutes with a 21-16 and 21-16 score on the board.
