  1. You don't have to be super fit to play rugby-you should be super fit if you want to play well.  And size is not as important as speed and quickness.  Your size is fine for a number of positions on a rugby side, and by just going out and practicing with a team, you will get into better shape.  Many rugby clubs have second and even third teams, so you can play your way on up.  It's a great game, enjoy.

  2. if you only want to play for a bit of fun you don't have to super-fit, but if you want to excell at rugby then being super-fit helps a lot! just train with your local club and you will find out all you need to know about where you could play and stuff, to get even fitter you should start training with a personal trainer at a gym.

  3. i play for a u16's team and i am a forward, 5ft7 and about the same weight, i've been playing rugby for 4 years now and you do need to be fit to enjoy it, orelse youd just end up walking around the pitch and missing out on all the action, which ive seen many times! After you train and play a few matches, you'll have no problem getting into it

  4. No you don't have to be super fit to play but you do have to be super fit to be good.

What on earth is the sprot?

If you're strong you might make a good flanker or hooker at that weight and height, but you have to be fast and fit to be a flanker.

Well done for deciding to play Rugby, it's one of the best decisions you'll ever make

  5. wel,no but if you want to get good at it fitness helps, but what better way to get fit than playing rugby?,

you personally...14st(185pds)is kinda heavy fr 5'8,if thats just mucle you should do fine, you could settle into any back position if you work on tecnique the fitness will follow...if your weight is fat then you will either need to join a gym to turn it to mucle or just become a prop and put on som weight...the lazy mans way!

  6. I find that many things in life can be boiled down to a handful of pretty simple equations.

    Sports usually boil down to:

. . .  fitter and stronger you are - faster you go  - more fun - and the fitter and stronger you get - faster you go - more fun - and the fitter and stronger you get  . . . and so on and so on.

It's a simple equation, but be very careful, too much speed and strength can be a very bad thing - Quality coaching and sound technique will get you from point A to B faster than anything else.

And Ledzeppe, I'm guessing that a "sprot" is the American English spelling for "sport".

  7. Being Super fit would be a big bonus for playing quite high in Rugby but if you just play for enjoyment then fitness isn't essentiual.

If you're gonna be a flanker then you need to be able to tackle BIG players.

For example you're defending on your 5 metre line and there is a scrum to the opposition. They play it to the Number 8 and he runs it to the side your on. You have to tackle him. he BIGGEST player on the pitch.
