Junior shuttler should follow Lee Chong Wei to become world beaters – says coach Tey Seu Bock
Malaysia’s national coach for singles, Tey Seu Bock said that junior shuttlers of the country should follow the footsteps of the top seed Lee Chong Wei in order to become world beaters.
The 29-yera-old Chong Wei, who is World Number One in the Men’s Singles world standings, has been displaying a greater spirit and dedication for the last three years and has been remained consistent at the top position by winning numerous titles at the world
stage.
The coach said that Chong Wei is one of the best shuttlers in the world of badminton because he never gives up. He works to his maximum level in the training sessions and put everything he can to maintain his position at the highest level of the game.
Seu Bock wants the junior shuttlers to become dedicate and committed to become like Chong Wei, who is a role model for the younger generation of shuttlers.
Chong Wei has been quite dejected after his loss to Lin Dan of China in the final match of the BWF World Championships in August. Since then he has not been able to get the right things of mind but remained consistent in doing hard work in training sessions.
The World Number One lost two final matches in back-to-back events against China’s Chen Long. However, he fought back in the last week’s French Open Super Series and defeated Long in the semi-final to prove that he is getting his mental toughness again.
He eventually won the Men’s Singles title in the championship.
Seu Bock said, “He never gives up. I know how much the defeat to Chen Long (at the Japan and Denmark Opens) affected him. He was looking at all kinds of ways to get even. And his determination paid off.”
He further added, “I have followed Chong Wei everywhere this year and I know the pressure he faces. Despite the growing expectations and over-reliance on him, he has done well. Our juniors should never give up if they wish to excel. There will be breakthroughs
in their career if they just continue to press on.”
The coach wants junior shuttlers to take inspiration from Chong Wei and work hard to become the world beaters.
