Newbury will host the Class 1 JLT Aston Park Stakes (Listed Race) over a mile, five furlongs and sixty-one yards on Saturday, 19th May. The race has attracted a line-up of six four-year and older runners with the prize money set at £18,714.
Junoob, Haafhd’s four-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare, Faydah, has settled nicely into the new season, having raced five times already. The only time that he raced at Newbury was in his career debut and came out of it with noting impressive to show.
He was the 30/100 favourite winner of the his seasonal debut, the Exclusive Live Shows At Bluesq.Com Conditions Stakes on 20th January at Lingfield over a mile and four furlongs.
Riding with Richard Kingscote, he led the field of four by three lengths and had Layline finishing the closest.
Concluding the race third was Uphold.
His second victory of the season was in the Get Your Bet On At Bluesquare.Com Winter Derby Trial Stakes (Listed Race) at Lingfield over a mile and two furlongs on 25th February.
The 3/1 favourite winner had Richard Kingscote onboard once again and took charge of the final 1 ¼ lengths. Qualifying as the runner up was Tinshu and following close behind was Loyalty.
Junoob’s most recent race was in the Stobart Doncaster Shield (Conditions Stakes) on 1st April at Doncaster over a mile and four furlongs. The race was won by Eternal Heart and King Of Wands became the 5/4 favourite runner up.
Junoob could only manage the third position.
He will need to look out for Meganisi, Galileo’s five-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Cland Di San Jore, as he claimed his seasonal debut just recently.
He won the £32 Bonus At 32Red.Com Novices’ Hurdle on 10th May at Wincanton over two miles. He won while riding with A. P. McCoy and led the 5/2 joint favourite runner up, Kings Lad, by eleven lengths.
The other joint favourite, Shallow Bay, finished third behind the winner.
He will race at Newbury for the first time and how the change from hurdle to stakes will impact the rankings will be out soon.
