  2. One way to do it is by knowing the orbital period of Jupiter.  Using the same rounding accuracy as the given, it takes 12 years.  And its orbital circumference would be 5 times earth's.

    That means it goes 5/12 the speed of the earth.

    Earth's mean orbital velocity is about 30 km/sec.  That's 30,000 m/sec.  5/12 of that is 12,500 m/sec. for Jupiter.  Using more accurate numbers, you'll get close to 13,000 m/sec.
