Jupp Heynckes: Reserve players were as good as first team regulars against Ingolstadt
Having rested first team regulars against the 2. Bundesliga side, FC Ingolstadt, on Wednesday, Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes has expressed delight at the performance of his reserve players. He also congratulated his team on progressing through to the
third round of DFB Pokal.
Heynckes was talking after DFB Pokal’s second round game played on Wednesday, October 26, at Allianz-Arena. Bayern registered a thumping 6-0 win over Die Schanzer, dumping them out of the competition.
The manager rested the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Contento-c11113 got his chance
in place of Lahm. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luiz-Gustavo-c22844 Dias was given an opportunity, replacing Franck Ribery in the midfield.
Thomas Muller was one of the very few first team regulars present on Wednesday alongside defender Rafinha, and midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Toni-Kroos-c35425.
Muller opened the scoring in the 33rd minute which was later doubled by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Alaba-c10416 on the 49th minute mark. Nils Petersen made good use of his opportunity by scoring his team’s third with a 53rd minute strike.
It was once again a Petersen strike in the 71st minute, helping the Reds to a 4-0 advantage. Marvin Matip scored an own goal 11 minutes later to make the score line 5-0. Second half substitute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Takashi-Usami-c34524, rubbed salt on the Ingolstadt wounds
by adding a sixth in the stoppage time to end the visitors’ misery.
The former Leverkusen boss reckoned that his decision to rest first team regulars paid off as Bayern completely tore their opponents apart on Wednesday.
While talking during the post-match press conference, Heynckes further enthused, "The first half was a little bumpy. Our build-up play was pedestrian, and we gave our opponents time to park the defensive bus. Once we made it 3-0 shortly after the break,
it was over as a contest. After that, we produced some flowing moves, and our passing was much more assured.”
He concluded by saying, "I really enjoyed watching my lads tonight, but all credit to the crowd too, they gave us terrific support."
Having qualified for third round of the DFB Pokal, Bayern will return to league action on Saturday, October 29, against FC Nurnberg.
