The Bayern Munich manager has held himself responsible for the club’s current situation and is confident that the side will make a strong comeback against FC Basel.
Having lost to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend, Bayern Munich have now gone seven points behind Borussia Dortmund with 10 games remaining in the season. The Reds have had a turbulent campaign since the winter break as they have
lost three times in all competitions.
Bayern lost to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League campaign and are under pressure to turn things around in the coming week. Their manager, Jupp Heynckes, has admitted that his team has put in a below-par performance
since returning from the break. and assures a turnaround in the future games.
Heynckes, along with his team, has recently come under scrutiny from the German media following their inconsistent run. The manager is also in danger of being replaced if his team fails to deliver against Basel in the second-leg
of their Champions League knock-out stage next week.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss stated that the criticism is justified and the players themselves realise the intensity of this whole scenario. Heynckes insisted that he is taking this situation positively and is confident that
Bayern will progress through to the last-eight of the Champions League. He also assured that the Reds will give Dortmund a decent run for their money in the Bundesliga despite their fading title hopes.
While talking to reporters after Werkself game, the former BayArena outfit tactician further added:
"The criticism is valid also for myself [not just the players]. I am the person responsible for the whole thing. Whoever coaches Bayern has to deal with such situations. I must remain calm and confident in myself. I think I have
the necessary experience."
Bayern lost 2-0 to Leverkusen on Saturday, March 03, at the BayArena. Stefan Kiessling and Karim Bellarabi scored goals for the home side.
The Reds will next be in action against Hoffenheim on Saturday, March 10, before hosting Basel for the second-leg on Tuesday, March 13.
