The Bayern Munich manager aims to overcome the one-goal deficit against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in the second-leg Champions League round-of-16 tie.
Jupp Heynckes reckons that Bayern Munich are certain favourites to progress further in the competition by beating Basel in the second-leg at home. The Reds will play hosts to the Swiss opposition on Tuesday, March 13, at the Allianz
Arena, having been beaten 1-0 in the first-leg courtesy Valentin Stocker’s 86th minute goal.
The manager is confident that his side can progress, especially after humiliating Hoffenheim 7-1 at the same venue. Heynckes opined that a one-goal deficit is not much of a daunting task to overcome for his players.
The tactician also expressed his delight at Bayern’s recent goal-scoring form and is targeting a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
While talking to a local sports publication in Munich, Heynckes further added:
“This will give us a push for Tuesday. We know we have to make good a one-goal deficit. We're capable of scoring goals. Right now, you don't think what's at stake in the game. I'm very confident because the game against Hoffenheim
came at the right time.”
On the other hand, Basel striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Frei has expressed his desire to beat the Munich giants to progress further in the competition. He insisted that it would be a great achievement to beat Bayern in their own backyard.
“If we should qualify ... it would be even bigger. It would be extraordinary. For a Swiss club to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Champions League is already not normal, but to eliminate Bayern to get there this is really
unusual,” Frei concluded.
Basel finished runners-up in Group C behind Benfica with 11 points. The Swiss side lost just once in the group stage fixtures and defeated Manchester United in the final game at home to progress to the knock-out round.
After this Champions League game, Bayern will return to the league action with an away game against Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536 before travelling to the Borussia-Park to take on Borussia Monchengladbach in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal on
Wednesday, March 21.
