The Bayern Munich manager has expressed his frustration after the team’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of FC Basel in the UEFA Champions League.
The Bavarian giants travelled to Basel for the first-leg of their UEFA Champions League knock-out stage clash against the Swiss giants. The home side emerged victorious as midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valentin-Stocker-c35843 scored four minutes from time
after some great play from the left wing. The visitors will now need to win with a two goal margin at Allianz Arena in order to progress to the next round.
Heynckes claimed that it was an evenly matched clash until the end and the game was heading towards a draw. He insisted that both the sides had enough opportunities to score but Bayern were unable to take their chances.
The tactician admitted that his defence was at fault for the late goal conceded and claimed that the players will have to step up for the second-leg fixture as it will not be easy.
“Overall, it was very evenly-matched, and the kind of game with 0-0 written all over it, although both teams did have very good chances to score. They have lots of attacking potential, and they were well-organised in defence. For
the goal, we weren’t determined enough to close them down, and that shouldn’t be happening,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Bayern President, Franz Beckenbauer, insisted that the Swiss opposition is always strong in their away games and admitted that the Bavarians will have to be careful. He added that the Reds lack strength in attack
and need goals to boost their confidence.
“Basel are always good on the road, if they score in the second leg, then we will need to score three times. Bayern have problems scoring. If Neuer was not there, Basel could have scored two more,” he concluded.
