Heynckes claimed that Bayern played with great determination and proved their worth against a formidable Marseille line-up. The tactician stressed on the importance of keeping a clean sheet in the game and admitted that the two
away goals will be crucial for his side.
However, the former Bayer Leverkusen boss raised concerns over the five yellow cards in the game and admitted that the team cannot afford to miss a player in the latter stages of the competition, given Bayern progress.
“We showed great composure today, which isn't easy here in Marseille. It was important to keep a clean sheet, which stopped Marseille working up a head of steam. The only thing I have to complain about is that we picked up five
yellow cards, which is far too many,” the manager was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed his satisfaction on the result and admitted that the team now has one step in the semi-final of the Champions League.
“I think we can be very satisfied. After you've won the first leg of a quarter-final in the Champions League 2–0 away from home and thrown the door to the semi-finals wide open, you have to offer huge compliments to the team,”
he concluded.
