Matthias Sammer’s appointment as the club’s Sporting Director piles immense pressure on manager Jupp Heynckes ahead of the start of the new season.

Bayern Munich supremo, Uli Hoeness, recently revealed that after a series of discussions with the club’s board of directors, he discovered his and the former sporting director Christian Nerlinger’s opinion differed on the club’s
future strategy.
This led to sacking of the former Bayern player and he was replaced by German national team’s technical director Matthias Sammer. As compared to Nerlinger, the former Stuttgart manager has a lot of experience in football management
and is a respected figure in international football.  
Sammer is understood to have a lot of say in the transfer dealings and the direction of the team. He is known to be a staunch advocate of incorporating new developments in sports science with training theories and techniques.
Bayern’s manager, who will be working alongside the 44-year old, was upbeat after learning of his appointment. Heynckes believes Uli Hoeness has played a masterstroke by appointing the former Borussia Dortmund manager as the Sporting
director. The veteran tactician revealed he is highly impressed by Sammer’s achievements.
He considers him to be a person who is always looking for good performances and is sometimes uncomfortably demanding. Heynckes thinks that the DFB’s former technical director is a very ambitious person and it will definitely be
an honour to work with him at FCB.
