The Bayern Munich manager has expressed his displeasure at the team’s poor show against Bayer Leverkusen which has minimised their chances of winning the title this season.
Bayern Munich suffered yet another defeat after the winter break which limits their chances of winning this season’s Bundesliga. The Reds lost to Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Saturday, March 03, by a 2-0 margin courtesy
goals from Stefan Kiessling and Karim Bellarabi.
Heynckes reckons that his players showed great determination inside the first 45 minutes but were unlucky not to have taken the lead. He opined that had his attackers made use of their opportunities then the result would certainly
have been in Bayern’s favour.
The manager stated that Bayern have been unlucky since coming back from the mid-season break. He mentioned that his players are giving their hundred percent but lack finishing which is a worrying factor. The Bavarian giants have
not been able to win two successive league games since the winter break and this loss could have severe effects on the club’s title ambitions.
While talking to the official club website, the former Leverkusen manager further added:
"We were outstanding in the first half and had huge chances, which we failed to take. That's the curse hanging over us at the moment. And not taking your chances can always backfire on you, which is what happened today. It's a
big disappointment to all of us."
The Munich giants have lost thrice since the break including a defeat at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Basel-c39079 in the first-leg of the UEFA Champions League knock-out stage. With only 10 games remaining in the Bundesliga, it is highly unlikely that Bayern
will be able to brush aside Borussia Dortmund off the top spot.
Heynckes’ men, though, still have an outside chance of winning their 23rd Bundesliga crown alongside the Champions League and the German Cup. Bayern will take on Basel in the second-leg of their Champions League knock-out
stage on March 13 and Borussia Monchengladbach in the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal on March 21.
The Reds sit currently second in the Bundesliga with 48 points and will next be in action against Hoffenheim at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, March 10.
