Heynckes insisted that his side certainly played the better football and deserved to win the game. The Munich giants progressed to the final of the competition after winning 4-2 on penalties.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss expressed his pleasure on the result against Mirko Slomka’s side and hailed the team for putting in a brilliant display. However, he admitted that it was not easy to claim all three points as Hannover defended very well and made few mistakes.
“All credit to my team! It’s not easy to turn in a performance like that just two and a half days after a game like Wednesday’s. I’m very pleased. As we all saw, Hannover aren’t through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and comfortably in the top third of the table by accident,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Heynckes showered praise on the team for playing with great determination and commitment despite the tiring win against Gladbach. He remained hopeful that Bayern will win the title at the end of the season and is confident of ending the campaign on a high.
“They were well-organised and hard to play football against. But all in all, it’s a deserved win. My team played very clever football for long spells. You expect to come under pressure at the end when you’ve played 120 minutes in the cup in midweek,” he concluded.
