Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes is impressed with Manchester City after defeat in the Champions League...
Bayern Munich manager, Jupp Heynckes, praised Manchester City on their win over his side in the Champions League and wished them luck for their Premier League campaign.
He reckoned that City were strong, keeping in mind the fact that it was their madied Champions League campaign, and perhaps unlucky to have been placed in the group of death alongside Napoli and Villarreal.
The manager was talking in the wake of his side’s 2-0 loss to the Citizens at Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, December 7. David Silva and the former Barcelona man, Yaya Toure, scored goals for the current EPL leaders, who crashed out of the competition despite
winning.
Heynckes congratulated his counterpart, Roberto Mancini, on forming a competitive team and leading them into the Champions League for the first time in their history. He opined that the Citizens were unexpectedly aggressive and competitive throughout their
stay, and teams in Europe found it hard playing agaisnt them.
He credited Mancini for building a strong force and wished him all the best for the Premier League and UEFA Europa League campaign. Heynckes reckoned that City could pose a huge threat in next year’s competition if they continue to perform in the same manner.
The tactician also believed that Mancini’s men are way ahead of their fiercest rivals, Manchester United, and are certain favourites to win domestic silverware despite being closely checked by the Red Devils.
While talking to reporters after the game, the former Leverkusen manager further stated:
"I think European competition needs experience - from the players and as a team. City haven't quite reached that collective level yet and that is perhaps why they will now play in the Europa League. It takes a team years to develop at this level but I think
Roberto Mancini is slowly getting it together in terms of forming a new team."
Bayern Munich have progressed through to the knockout stages as group A leaders despite losing to City, while the Citizens follow Manchester United out of the competition.
