The Bayern Munich manager is gutted after his team’s shocking 3-1 loss at the hands of the Foals on Friday and hailed Gladbach’s counter-attacking abilities.
Jupp Heynckes has expressed his dissatisfaction after losing out on the opportunity of extending the lead at the top. The Bavarian giants were stunned at the hands of the Foals when the two teams met for the season’s second-half
opener on Friday, January 20, at the Borussia-Park.
Bayern slipped badly, courtesy a goal from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bastian-Schweinsteiger-c7374 pulled one goal back for the Reds, which later proved to be a consolation as Lucien Favre’s men moved three points up
to the second spot on the table.
It also leaves them one point short of the current leaders, who are in danger of losing their lead over the weekend.
With Schalke and Borussia Dortmund yet to play their games this weekend, Bayern could see themselves level on points with both the outfits, provided they win their respective meetings.
Heynckes expressed his anger at losing to Gladbach for the second time this season, saying that the second goal before the break was the turning point.
Heynckes stated that the Foals were brilliant in every department, and their counter attacks were spot on. He showered praise on last year’s relegation contenders for putting up an outstanding show in front of a full strength Bayern
squad.
While talking during the post-match press conference, the manager further stressed:
"I've previously said Monchengladbach are a well organised team, who counter-attack very well. They played their cards well to get the early goals and the turning point was the goal just before the break.”
Further commenting on his team’s disappointing result, the tactician stated that Gladbach’s defence was impossible to break after Bayern went down 2-0. He criticised his entire unit for the lack of intent during the whole 90 minutes,
and wishes to get back to winning ways in the next game against Wolfsburg.
"After we went 2-0 down, they made it hard to come back and we were not in a position to force the game at the decisive moments," Heynckes concluded.
Bayern are currently atop the league table with 37 points, closely monitored by Gladbach, Dortmund and Schalke who are second, third and fourth with 36 and 34 points respectively.
