Croatian-Hungarian tandem, Darija Jurak and Katalin Marosi, shocked the second seeds, Spain’s Nuria Llagostera Vives and India’s Sania Mirza, in a three-set nail-biter at the Toray Pan Pacific Open 2012 on Monday. They summed up
a 6-0, 4-6, 10-8 victory over the newly formed tandem to book a spot in the quarter-finals at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Five event held in Tokyo, Japan.

Jurak and Marosi went berserk after entering the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo. They unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and wiped out all six games consecutively. The Croatian-Hungarian junction smoothly bagged their entire serves without
facing any hindrance and cashed in all three break chances to inch towards the gory.
The Spanish-Indian collaboration sought their momentum in the proceeding set. They got the coveted break in the third game and jumped to a 3-1 lead. Apart from losing his edge in the sixth game, Llagostera Vives and Mirza stayed
calm and kept their remaining serves. They got the breakthrough in the ninth game and clicked the equaliser with a 6-4 win. The Spanish-Indian pair brushed off two out of three breakpoints they faced and converted two out of five break opportunities to their
advantage.
In the final set or the super tie-breaker, the underdogs re-gained their early momentum and form. They clobbered an equal first serve share of 44 per cent but registered a perfect win on it. As a result, Jurak and Marosi sealed
the decider with a 10-8 success.
Overall, the lower ranked duo showed exceptional co-ordination throughout the match. They produced a better first serve share of 67 per cent in contrast with their opponents’ 50 per cent and amazingly availed 25 out of 37 points
on it.
Up next for the Croatian-Hungarian pair is the winner of the match between the German-American junction, Sabine Lisicki and Lisa Raymond, and the Romanian-Polish duo, Monica Niculescu and Alicja Rosolska.
